Teenage representation in film posters

These are the three posters that I have chosen in order to make an analysis on the marketing between the three:

                                                              St Trinians

Director: Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson
Distributed by: Entertainment film distributers
    Released: 21st December 2007 (UK)
Budget: £7 million

The main female protagonist in this picture- Lena Heady is presented as a sophisticated student however it could be argued that she has other ambitions on her mind as the clothing she is wearing seems a bit inappropriate for school as everything is tightly fitted exposing her figure. The heels that she appears to be wearing suggests that she is no ordinary student as a normal student would not wear such thing. The other four female characters in the background look like they do not care for education as they are giggling and pulling silly faces. Teenagers in this poster are represented as individuals who do not mark education as their number one priority and only attend school for fun games and fashion- evident through their choice of uniform. It gives a negative perception of teenagers as they are clearly seen as sex objects with the majority of the girls wearing extremely high mini schools skirts or if not, tight fitted skirts either showing bare legs or a glimpse of their legs in knee-high racy socks. This creates a stereotypical image of teenagers, especially females as uncontrollable teens with no ambition except from looking good.

A long shot is used to capture the characters physical appearance from head to toe in order to establish what sort of characters they are. It is clear who the main protagonist is through the use of mise-en-scene which in this case is the costume as it differs from the rest of the other characters uniforms. Another form on mise-en-scene- lighting is also used to bring the main focus onto the main protagonist. Lena Heady is also in front of the other characters by a few steps in order to establish who the main character is.

The names of the main, frequent actors and actress' are placed above at the very top of the poster with the name of the movie slightly underneath it following a slogan 'school can be riot'. The image is placed in the central of the poster. Overall teenagers are represented as somewhat sophisticated, educated however mischievous individuals.

                                                                         Sket

                                                                        Director: Nirpal Bhogal
                                                              Distributed by: Revolver entertainment
                                                        Released: 28th October 2011 (UK)
                                                                          Budget: £595,203.00

Teenagers in this poster are represented as violent and aggressive individuals through the use of the action they are doing and the dominating colours: red pink and black connoting blood and violence. The name of the film 'Sket' is bold and gritty as it fits the whole aspect and genre of  the movie. The slogan "Man's world. Sisters hood" simply means that although its a man's world; females also have  their own place in which they own and are slowly progressing to taking over. Over teenagers are represented as violent, aggressive, unambitious individuals.

                  Angus, thongs and perfect snogging

                                                                   Director: Gurinder Chadha
                                                            Distributed by: Paramount pictures
                                                  Released: 25th July 2008 (UK) 12th March 2009 (US)
                                                                      Budget: £700,000

Teenagers on his poster are represented as people who have a lot on their mind school, friends, boys etc. They are also presented as bubbly, calm people through the use of warm colours (blue, pink, yellow etc). Animations of the some of the objects in the poster are used to create a comfortable playful scene. The slogan "Georgia Nicholson's not going mental, but her life is". This gives out the impression that the disobedience of children is not due to them, however the difficulties that they have to deal with on an everyday basis. Overall teenagers are represented as calm individuals with a lot on their plate.
