Applying use and gratification

Today I was given the task to apply use of gratification to an existing magazine relating to the genre of music in which my music magazine would be.

What information is provided about the music artist itself?
There is no direct information on the featured artist- Busta Rhymes, however readers get a slight glimpse on the topic of the artist is through the use of a conventional cover line/lead article which in this case states 'recession proof Busta Rhymes'. From this, we conclude that he has a lot of money and will not struggle through the recession as he is 'recession proof'. Also, judging from the mid-shot of Busta Rhymes we perceive him as a wealthy man who's last thing on his mind is worrying about money as he is shown burning it- suggesting that he must have plenty of it to even consider burning it. Some may also argue that he is a "gangster" through the use of mise-en-scene as he appears to be showered in jewellery  and smoking a cigar connoting a "gangster's" appearance.

How does the music magazine promote a sense of belonging as part of a community of readers?
This is achieved by using a well known hip-hop artist who's main target audience are males aged 14-40. The Sources magazine promotes a sense of belonging by discussing a controversial topic which everyone can relate to including celebrities. The artist is also dressed like most of the targeted audience which makes them feel comfortable- creating a sense of belonging.

What form of entertainment does the magazine provide for the reader?
These include: gossip, politics, adverts promoting products/concerts, competitions, reviews, freebies and exclusives. These are used as incentives to draw in the targeted audience.
